Questions
Which format should I choose?
JPG for photos you will share or upload to forms. PNG for screenshots, logos and anything with transparency. WebP or AVIF for websites: both are small and keep transparency, and AVIF is usually smaller still. Not sure? Choose Smallest file and it tries WebP, AVIF and JPG and keeps the smallest.
What is JPEG XL?
A newer format that keeps photo quality at smaller sizes and can also be lossless. Safari and Apple Photos open it; most other browsers do not yet, so use it for archiving or Apple devices.
What happens to transparent areas in JPG?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick (white by default).
Do you upload my files?
No. The tool runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device, and it still works with Wi-Fi turned off.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac and Linux.
